Wide open it may be a touch soft, but close it to match the f4 of your current zoom and it looks like it will be an improvement on the 24-105/II. The f2.8 aperture will provide superior subject isolation and save you 1 stop in ISO. Apparently at the time it was a significant improvement over the 28-80/2.8-4 L. The Canon EF 24-105mm announced in 2005 was replaced by a mark II in 2016, so it lasted 11 years. 2015 is not very long ago. yeah, but Canon are miserable like that, the 85 1.8 and 50 1.4 ware 30 years old and Canon never updated those even though they were outdated rubbish.

24-105 f4. or. 24mm 2.8, 35mm f2, 85mm 1.8 (or 100mm f2) They work out at roughly the same price second hand (around £600 in the UK) which happens to be my absolute budget. Any thoughts on either option? Obviously the 24-105 has the convenience of being all-in-one and more reach, but it's relatively slow compared to the primes mentioned.
