At $39,780, the Challenger R/T is the cheapest V8 Dodge you can buy. Dodge advertises the base MSRP of a Challenger coupe as $30,940. This actually makes it competitive with the cheapest, two-door Ram 1500 pickup truck. Both vehicles come with a 3.4-liter Pentastar V6 that makes 300+ horsepower.
The new 6.2L combines the 4.09-inch bore of the 6.4L Hemi with the 3.58-inch stroke of the 5.7- and 6.1L Hemis. The shorter stroke (3.72 versus 3.58 inches) offers three distinct advantages.
But the big Challenger news for 2011 is the debut of the SRT8 392, powered by a 6.4-liter version of the Hemi engine and making 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The 6.4L has TONS of power, it sounds awesome, has awesome low end and pulls like a freight train right up to 6000-6200RPM when it shifts, will run 12's all day long in stock form, and will break into the 11's with some basic mods. It gets noticeably worse gas mileage than the 5.7L. U20E.
